15 May Cheek Thread Lift
In the past, if you were concerned about the cosmetic appearance of ageing such as sagging cheeks, jowls, or drooping brows, your only solution was to have facelift surgery. A facelift is a very invasive procedure with a large number of risks, and not everyone wants to or is able to undergo surgery. The good news is that there is another option: a thread lift. At Elysium Skin Centre, thread lifts are one of the most popular and effective treatments to lift and rejuvenate your lower face.
What is a cheek thread lift?
A thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure which tightens drooping skin and lifts lower face sagging. Thin, absorbable filaments are inserted under your skin to provide support and lift and to stimulate collagen production. They are inserted using a small gauge needle and no incisions or cutting of the skin is required. Thread lifts are particularly popular to treat the mid-face cheek area, jawline and neck. Thread lifts can be employed on their own or in conjunction with other skin-tightening treatments to enhance the overall result.
When having a cheek thread lift, a few threads are inserted into the skin on either side of your face and tightened to provide a gentle yet noticeable lift to the cheeks. You may prefer to focus on your mid-face (cheekbones) or lower face (jowls) for your thread lift, and our team will discuss your desired results and give you a tailored plan for the procedure to ensure you achieve the best treatment outcome for your goals.
At Elysium Skin Centre, the thread lift procedure can be performed in our minor ops rooms as there are no skin incisions necessary, unlike a surgical face lift which requires a hospital stay or day surgery facility. Using only delicate needles to insert threads into the skin makes a thread lift procedure less invasive with fewer risks and complications. Nowadays, the thread material has tiny cones and barbs to provide better ‘grip’ and lift for improved and longer lasting results.
Advantages of a cheek thread lift over a surgical face lift
A traditional facelift is an invasive surgery that has a number of possible complications and different risks. Surgical facelifts require significant recovery time and strong painkillers post op when compared to a thread lift, which is far less intensive yet still produces appreciable results. Facelift surgery will produce more pronounced results, however some patients may find that the longer downtime, higher cost and complications, like significant scarring and nerve damage, outweigh the benefits of a surgical procedure.
Benefits of a cheek thread lift over a surgical facelift include:
- Lower risks and complications
- Quick procedure (you can be in and out in 30-60min)
- Fast recovery with little to no downtime
- Long-lasting results (up to 3 years)
- No surgery
- More affordable
- No scars
What to expect with your cheek thread lift
A cheek thread lift is a low risk procedure with minimal recovery time. The worst you can realistically experience is some bruising, minor swelling and redness, which is easily covered by foundation or BB cream, and clears up within a few days, so you won’t have to take much time off work. You will be advised to be gentle with the treated areas of the face and not perform any vigorous facial or neck exercises for a couple of weeks. Otherwise, you should be able to go about your daily life as normal, with confidence!
How long will my results last?
Cheek thread lifts produce results immediately and last between 1 and 3 years, varying from person to person and the type and number of threads used. A typical “lift” will remain for about 18 months, and combining other treatments with your thread lift can prolong results further. Because it is such a non-intensive procedure, you can repeat the treatment as often as needed to maintain the desired results.
