The LaseMD Ultra Laser System is a non-ablative Thulium 1927 laser which is one of the best wavelengths to treat pigmentation, ageing, sun-spots and wrinkles, and rebuilds glowing, healthy and elastic skin through gentle fractionated treatments, prompting the body to quickly generate new tissue.
It is indicated for dermatological procedures in the treatment of actinic keratosis, and the treatment of benign pigmented lesions such as, but not limited to lentigos (age spots), solar lentigos (sunspots) and ephelides (freckles)
The LaseMD Ultra is a fast, resurfacing treatment that is able to treat pigmentation, superficial fine lines/wrinkles, skin rejuvenation; age spots, freckles, sun-spots, pigmented lesions, sun damage, actinic keratosis (pre-cancerous lesions) and even melasma.
Treatments can be customised for your particular needs.
The fractionated laser energy from the Lase MD Ultra creates tiny microchannels into the dermal layer. This controlled microdamage kick-starts the body’s natural healing response, boosting the rate of cell turnover and the production of new collagen and elastin at the cellular level. As the name indicates, when treating the dermal layer, a fractionated laser leaves some healthy tissue is left to assist in the healing process. The treatment will visibly improve the effects of sun-damage and aging resulting in a more even skin tone with improvement in texture and pigment.
LaseMD Ultra also allows for pain-free topical cosmeceutical absorption into the correct layer of the skin. The microchannels that are created by the laser allow topical serums to be applied immediately after treatment to penetrate more deeply and maximize their efficacy; where typically, cosmetics have great difficulty penetrating the skin’s barrier, resulting in poor absorption.
Different skin conditions can be targeted including, acne, pigmentation, brightness, skin tone, hydration and more.
The LaseMD Ultra is commonly used for skin resurfacing on the face, neck, chest or hands. However, it can be used to treat anywhere on the body, such as legs, arms
Additionally, it is used in the treatment of hair-regrowth, in combination with a topical application.
You will have an initial consultation with your practitioner, (Dr Csilla, Nurse Fay or Nurse Kirsten) prior to any treatment. Pre-assessment of your skin starts with our Reveal ™ photography system, exposing the underlying sun damage (abnormal red and brown pigmentation) in the area to be treated.
On the day of treatment, you will be asked to arrive 60-70 mins prior to your treatment appointment to have baseline photos taken of the area to be treated; and to finalise any paperwork, like consent forms.
A topical numbing cream is applied, and you will be offered oral analgesia. Protective eyewear is provided and worn throughout the procedure. Cooling air is offered throughout the procedure to minimise discomfort.
Discomfort during LaseMD Ultra treatments is variable, and the oral analgesia should help minimise the discomfort. Most patients describe the sensation as “mild to moderate” discomfort, heat or a ‘prickling’ sensation, but these are alleviated with cooling during the treatment.
The treatment settings can be varied/adjusted to make it more comfortable, but a higher intensity and energy will deliver better results.
Alternatively, this treatment can be performed as a ‘light’ peel treatment without the need for any numbing cream, therefore more tolerable. However, being a ‘lighter’ treatment, more treatment sessions are required.
Immediately following the treatment, you will notice redness and feel heat in the skin, both of which will lessen with cooling. Once the heat in the skin has settled and you are feeling comfortable, topical sunscreen is applied along with a healing make-up, Oxygenetix, a formulation is designed for post-laser skin. You will be provided with a post-laser skincare pack and written instructions on your post-treatment care. Your practitioner will explain these instructions to you before you leave the clinic; and you will receive follow-up calls to ensure that your healing process is proceeding as expected.
Over the next few days, you will experience mild redness for about 36 hours, and minor swelling will be apparent for 24-48 hours. Where there are pigmented spots, these will darken over the next 48 hours. The following 5 – 6 days, your skin will have a dry, sandpaper-like texture. This is normal and superficial peeling will occur. Keeping the skin well hydrated will assist in this exfoliation process and as your skin exfoliates it will reveal a fresher, smoother and clearer skin.
Patients who receive a more powerful treatment should expect a longer healing time.
For patients who do not have a lot of downtime available, the ‘light’ LaseMD Peel treatment can be done.
You will be able to resume normal activities once your skin has healed and in most cases, full healing may take 5 to 7 days . Makeup may be applied based upon your post care instructions from your practitioner.
Depending upon your skin condition, treatment plan and expectations, you may see results after a single treatment while other skin conditions could require several visits. Treatment indications and your expectations will be discussed with you at the time of your consultation, prior to your treatment.
Repeat treatments can be done in 2-4 weeks depending on the treatment indications.
You may start to see improvements in your skin soon after your LaseMD Ultra treatment. However, changes can continue for months as your collagen levels increase
Most patients see significant improvement in the quality of their skin after three treatment sessions, spaced apart at one-month intervals. Those results will continue to improve because of increased collagen production.
You’ll see the most improvement from your treatment at six months, as new collagen and elastin develops, and your results should last about a year. After that, the benefits will start to taper off.
Side effects are uncommon with this treatment as we only treat ‘portions’ of skin. A realistic side effect profile is as follows:
Other side effects which may occur are:
Preventative measures are taken by your practitioner to minimise the risk and avoid any of these side-effects.
Patients who have a history of cold sores will receive a prophylactic anti-viral medication prior to their treatment.
Your laser treatment includes follow-up calls to ensure that you are healing as expected. Any concerns or complications that may arise will be monitored and addressed by the practitioner accordingly.
LMD Ultra is recommended for all skin types, however your practitioner will determine what your treatment program should include.
