FAQ’S

What is Ultraformer MPT?

Ultraformer is a revolutionary non-surgical, non-invasive face and neck lifting and skin tightening treatment that works by stimulating your body’s natural regenerative processes. It uses highly sophisticated Micro-Focused Ultrasound energy to rejuvenate three critical levels of your skin’s infrastructure. It has an immediate tightening effect by contracting the collagen fibres that support your skin. Most importantly, Ultraformer treatment stimulates long-term production of new, stronger collagen, helping to lift and tighten sagging skin and fill out wrinkles, without downtime.

Ultraformer works with geometric precision. Micro-Focused Ultrasound sends bursts of finely tuned ultrasound energy to precise depths to stimulate regeneration. The target tissues are heated to the specific temperature required to induce ‘thermal injury’, which causes the collagen to contract, and then, over time, to produce new and stronger collagen.

Ultraformer’s Exact Focusing Technology ensures that the right depth is always targeted.
Treatment benefits build gradually over a period of a few months, as the production of new collagen provides a more youthful support structure for your skin. You can expect to experience a tighter, more toned skin, along with some reversal of sagging in the treated areas.

Am I a good candidate for Ultraformer MPT?

A good candidate for Ultraformer anyone concerned about skin laxity, fine lines, wrinkles and problematic body areas.

Ultraformer is also a good option for those who want to prevent future skin sag and droop, and for those who want to maintain the effects of cosmetic surgery.

What areas can be treated with Ultraformer MPT?

Ultraformer treatment is ideal for areas that are particularly prone to sagging skin, such as the cheeks and jowls, the eyebrow area, the nasolabial lines (from the nose to the corners of your mouth), and the sub-mental zone (the area under your chin).
However, it can also be used very effectively for skin tightening on problem areas of different parts of the body.

These areas include:

  • Chest; wrinkles
  • Knees; sagginess and wrinkles
  • Abdomen; stretch marks
  • Upper arms; wrinkles and saggy skin

What should I expect during the procedure?

You will have an initial consultation and assessment with one of our practitioners to ensure that Ultraformer is the right treatment for you.

On the day of your treatment you will have baseline photographs taken to allow objective assessment of results.

The treatment is performed as you lie on a comfortable treatment bed. Your skin will be cleaned and a cool ultrasound gel is applied to the skin of the area to be treated to allow good contact and penetration of the ultrasound energy.

The handpiece is then guided across the skin surface, firing pulses of micro-focused ultrasound energy into the skin. As the energy is delivered a sensation of building heat is felt momentarily.  Most patients do not find this procedure  uncomfortable at all.

The Ultraformer MPT has a vastly improved comfort level compared to previous other machines, and many patients are amazed at the difference.

Discomfort is most noticeable when treating areas of the body. Oral pain killers (paracetamol) can reduce discomfort.

The treatment time varies from 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the areas to be treated.

As Ultraformer  has no downtime, you can return to normal activities immediately.

When will I see the results?

Some patients see an immediate result post-procedure due to collagen coagulation and contraction, however, this varies and may disappear over a few days.

Collagen production with associated tightening and lifting will start to become visible at 2-3 months post-procedure, and continued improvement can be seen for up to 6 months.

How many treatments will I need?

Results vary, however, depending on the degree of skin laxity, accumulated sun-damage, individual biological response to ultrasound energy, and the individual’s collagen-building ability. Anti-inflammatory medications may also affect new collagen production. Additional treatments are often recommended because skin continues to age, future touch-up treatments can help patients keep ahead of the body’s natural aging process.

How long do the results last?

Typically the benefits last for about 2 years, but this does vary between individuals. Maintenance treatments are recommended.

How is Ultraformer MPT different from Laser?

Ultraformer uses micro-focused ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production in the skin’s deeper layers, resulting in a clinically significant lift of tissue over 2-3 months. Lasers rely on light energy, which typically only treats the superficial skin layers (epidermis and dermis).

Lasers also usually affect the surface of the skin, often resulting in some downtime after a procedure. Ultraformer’s ultrasound energy bypasses the surface of the skin, hence no downtime is required after the treatment.

Since the two technologies often treat different types of skin problems they can frequently be used together.

How is Ultraformer MPT different from RF (radiofrequency) “tightening”?

  • Precision – Ultraformer uses micro-focused ultrasound energy to produce discrete zones of thermal coagulation at 1.5mm, 2mm, 3mm and 4.5mm and 6mm depth. Body areas can be treatment 9mm and 13mm. RF uses general volumetric heating that is not targeted.
  • Temperature – Ultraformer heats collagen at specific depths to an optimal temperature for new collagen production. Because of superficial safety issues, RF heats tissue to a lesser degree which induces less new collagen synthesis.
  • Effect on skin surface – Ultraformer heats tissue at specific depths under the skin surface and has no effect on the superficial layers at all. RF causes volumetric heating, which also affects the superficial layers.

Is there any downtime with the treatment?

No. You can return to normal activities immediately after the treatment, and there is no specific aftercare needed.

Some patients experience minor flushing or redness for a few hours after the procedure. It is also not uncommon to experience slight swelling for a few days.

Mild, temporary tingling or tenderness might be evident post treatment.

How much does it cost?

The cost of the procedure depends on the area to be treated, including the time and number of pulses required.

An accurate quote will be given to you during your initial consultation and assessment.

Are there any risks?

The safety and efficacy has been established through clinical studies.

Side effects are uncommon and temporary. They usually resolve within 2-6 weeks and include:

  • Tingling
  • Tenderness
  • Bruising
  • Numbness
  • Muscle weakness

Contraindications include:

  • Open wounds or sores in the treatment area
  • Severe or cystic acne in the treatment area
  • Active implants (pacemakers / defibrillators)
  • Metallic implants in the treatment area

There is a slight risk of a burn to the skin, which may or may not lead to scarring. Both a burn and any scarring will respond to medical treatment.
Temporary nerve inflammation will resolve in a few days or weeks.

If a motor nerve has become inflamed, you might experience some temporary local muscle weakness. There could be some temporary numbness if a sensory nerve has become inflamed. However, due to Ultraformer’s precision engineering, it is highly unlikely that either of these complications will occur.

The final word on Ultraformer MPT by Dr Csilla

Ultraformer complements all of the other anti-aging and beautifying procedures that we offer at Elysium™ Skin Center Brisbane. It has the proven ability to lift and tighten loose skin on the face, neck and chest without any downtime. I particularly like the ability to now offer a subtle brow lift, jaw lift or neck lift to my patients who have already benefited from improved skin tone and texture. And to have a treatment for those patients keen to prevent future facial sag and droop.
